Not yet published here in the UK, but I'm sure it will be all the rage when it does come out, is Paris vs New York, described by its author, Vahram Muratyan, as 'A friendly visual match between two cities told by a lover of Paris wandering through New York. Details, clichés and contradictions'. I came across the book in Paris the other week and was immediately seduced by the distinctive yellow cover. Nestling within is a collection of illustrations that are quite beautiful in their reductiveness, Paris juxtaposed with New York. An enchantingly simple and stylish visual journey through two idiosyncratic cities. And I learned something – it was news to me that to step in dog poo (with the left foot, mind) in Paris is known as porte de bonheur. I'll try to remember that the next time it happens to me! A couple of favourite spreads below but I recommend looking at Muratyan's blog, parisvsnyc, for more.
