McSweeney’s Panorama

I think I've mentioned before how much I like McSweeney's, so it was with great excitement that I opened a package from America the other day to find my copy of the latest installment of the Quarterly – the Panorama.

One of the things I like most about MSQ is the way they are so inventive with the packaging & binding of each one. For this issue, they decided they wanted to create a newspaper – if McSweeney's did newspapers – and here is the result:

Which turns out to be section after section – news, magazines, a literary supplement, sport… even a rocket to make.

Isn't it brilliant? Trouble is, all I want to do is curl up somewhere quiet and read it, and since it arrived life seems to have got ridiculously busy so that thus far all I've been able to do is read a couple of articles in the magazine. Both of which were amazing – one on the Camino de Santiago, which I read and immediately copied for my three friends who have been doing this walk with me (a project that has taken us some years & is still to be completed – if we ever get there it will be so momentous, I'm considering getting a tattoo!) and another on someone's experience of working at McMurdo in Antarctica –  both well written, interesting, just the right side of quirky… It's basically perfect, and it's all sitting there waiting for me.
