The nights are drawing in, the leaves are on the ground, summer reading seems but a distant memory, it must be time for The Booker Prize 2022. Our most demanding, but possibly also our favourite episode of the year as we’re joined by bookshop owner Chrissy Ryan of Bookbar, and journalist and pod regular Phil Chaffee to discuss and debate this year’s six shortlisted books.
The Trees by Percival Everett
Oh, William by Elizabeth Strout
The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida by Shehan Karunatilaka
Glory by NoViolet Bulawayo
Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan
and
Treacle Walker by Alan Garner
Although we might rail at this much required reading all in one go, the truth is we love tackling the Booker shortlist, which expands our horizons and stretches us as readers like nothing else. So listen in to find out which books we loved, which ones we wished we could have avoided, and which one we think should win the 2022 Booker Prize.
The judges this year are academic and broadcaster Shahida Bari, historian of the medieval and Tudor period Helen Castor, novelist and critic M. John Harrison and novelist, poet and professor Alain Mabanckou, and they are chaired by cultural historian, writer and broadcaster Neil MacGregor
